Are Only Men Addicted in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia?

In 2014, the ncbi.nim.nih.gov (US National Library of Medicine & National Center for Biotechnology Information) performed a study in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia within the addiction therapeutic arena.  Two alarming results (from a US perspective) were discovered:  1.  There were only 5 Treatment Centers (TCs) in Saudi Arabia. 2.  All were traditional TCs for adult male residents.  Read the study here:  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5107288/

Do you believe addiction only affects men?  If so, it would be like believing only men are susceptible to cancer.  In any society, it is ignorant to believe only men struggle with addiction.  Women battle addiction exactly as men do with the exact same shame, remorse, and fear.

The human brain is not fully developed until the age of 25.  Therefore, this would make both young men and young women (under the age of 25) even more vulnerable to addiction.  In cultures around the world, the demographic of young men and young women, are the innocent most exposed to the harrowing stories of addiction with complete disregard to physical consequences (never mind societal laws of being put to death) because these young people cannot comprehend how addiction will affect them throughout their life, they believe they are invincible.  No one (man or woman) is invincible against addiction.  Millions have paved the path of addiction well before you all, with similar storylines, whether in The Middle East, The US, India or any other country in the world.  Addiction in it of itself is a certain prison or death sentence!

We bet the images you have of a drug addict or an alcoholic are antiquated!  Many of today’s addicts begin innocently with issues of depression, anxiety, OCD (Obsessive compulsive disorder), PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder), and much more.  Their families agree to bring them to a psychiatrist or other medical professional where they are prescribed their first bottle of prescription drugs.  The vicious cycle begins here and can very well last a lifetime.

Did you know the other place where most addicts find their drugs is in the medicine cabinet of a family member or friend? Stealing a patients pain medication? Visiting multiple doctors? Or directly off the street or internet?  The loved ones engaging in this behavior look exactly like you, may be as accomplished as you, or may even be an addicted doctor themselves making it especially hard to detect.  All of the above characters are both men and women.  Active addiction does not discriminate.
